Ambitious energy project in Southern California offers many opportunities to learn
Serving more than 22,000 students at 11 schools across La Mesa, California, Grossmont Union High School District has been pulling out all the stops to keep electricity costs low. Energy storage offered the district a unique opportunity to address a portion of their electric bill that energy efficiency upgrades often miss — demand charges. Surges in demand were contributing to these charges, amounting to as much as 60% of Grossmont’s bill. Energy storage will reduce demand charges by $5 million across 14 of the district’s locations.
